It’s hard to believe her.
The 23-year-old wife of former U.S. president Donald Trump, who lost both her legs in a fall from the White House, is back in the hospital.
But the ordeal has not changed the fact that it has been a whirlwind year for the former model and reality star.
“It’s been a crazy year for me,” says Michelle Fields, who is now on the mend after undergoing three surgeries.
“I’m not doing as well as I used to.
I’m not living as well.
And I’m trying to figure out why I’m still doing it.”
Fields had been hospitalized for a month after falling from a fourth-floor balcony while her husband, Trump, was in the Oval Office.
“He was having fun, and then suddenly, he gets out of bed and there’s this massive, massive, huge hole in his back, and it’s crushing him,” she says.
Fields says the fall had been predicted.
“My doctors had told me he would have some complications and that I wouldn’t make it through,” she said.
Fields’ injury was a major blow to her career.
“When I got home, I went straight to the ER,” she recalled.
“And the first thing I said to the nurses was, ‘I don’t want to be here.
I don’t know what’s going on.
I’ve never been hurt like this.
I feel so broken.'”
Fields says she has been through more than her fair share of surgeries, including two more to repair her broken pelvis and two major surgeries to repair a herniated disk in her brain.
Fields, whose real name is Michelle Thomas, has become a celebrity in her own right, with the help of her husband and former colleague, Joe Scarborough.
“We’ve been through so much,” Fields says.
“Joe and I have had a lot of surgery and we’ve been so lucky.”
“Joe has had so many surgeries,” Scarborough says.
He added: “The first thing that we’ve done is remove her uterus.
The second thing we did is we did a lot to help her relax and get over this stress and stress of her new life, and we’re doing it all over again.”
Fields’ injuries have made it harder for her to connect with the rest of the world, and her social media presence has suffered.
“You can’t just be a celebrity,” she explains.
“Your fans, the fans that know you, have to be there to support you and help you, and they have to love you and care for you.
And you have to put your foot down, and you have no choice but to be yourself.”
“I think if I didn’t have that kind of support, it would have been harder for me to come out of it.”
‘I just feel like I need help’: Former U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power, right, listens as former President Donald Trump talks with Fields during a news conference on Sept. 11, 2020.
Fields was one of four women who filed a lawsuit against Trump and former president George W. Bush in late September alleging that Trump had groped them while in the White the Oval Room.
Trump has said the allegation is false and the women have denied any wrongdoing.
Fields is one of a handful of women who have sued Trump over sexual misconduct allegations, with a slew of others alleging unwanted advances.
But while she says she feels like she is not alone in her struggles, Fields is confident she has the support of the larger American public.
“People don’t feel as though they have this much support,” she explained.
“There’s a lot more support than I have, and I think that’s because there’s so much support for women.”
Fields is in a wheelchair, but has taken on a wheelchair-accessible role on the campaign trail.
“That’s been the most difficult thing for me in the last two months,” she told ABC News.
“Just feeling like I’ve been ignored.
That’s not the most important thing to me.
But it’s the most painful, because you’re not just ignored.
You’re not really heard.
And there’s a reason why I did this.
It’s because I wanted to speak up for women like me.”
“It was hard,” Fields said.
“It’s just been so hard.
But I feel like the only way that I can do that is to do it in public.”
